Where I’ve Been and Where I’m Going

Wow, it’s been a while.

Six months – almost to the day – to be exact.  I fell off the blogging wagon, for many reasons: school ramped up, I was running a lot more, and my free time usually ended up being used for eating or sleeping.  The life of a college student, right?  Sadly, that meant that Muffins here got put on the backburner, which I truly regret.  I forgot how much I love writing, and I wish I had made more of an effort to fit blogging into my schedule.

So what have I been up to for the last half a year?  Well…a lot.  To name just a few things I did…

– I survived my first semester of Organic Chemistry.

– I explored and discovered new things in D.C.

– I hung out with school friends and friends from home.

– I spent a lot of time with my mom, because she’s awesome.  (Love you, Mom!)

– I released my inner music nerd, and (not-so-secretly) loved it.

– I reconnected with my faith, on a level that I haven’t allowed myself to be on for a long time.

– I spent quiet mornings on the waterfront, just soaking up the beauty of life.

– I laughed, and cried some too.

– I learned the healing power of long walks, and that yoga is good for the soul.

– I ran…a LOT.  Like, half marathon a lot.

IMG_0416IMG_0361– …I stopped running.

I’ll be writing a lot more about many of these things in the coming weeks, but that is just a quick snapshot of my life since September.  I’ve had a lot of fun, made a lot of memories, and also made some pretty big decisions.  I ran a half marathon and was on top of the world, and more recently, I made the decision to stop running for a while.  I feel like where I am, at this moment in my life, is a critical place for me with so much potential.  Which begs the question…

Where do I go from here?

Long story short, I don’t really know.  My biggest goal is to make more time for myself, and to find the self-confidence and self-love that I seem to have lost somewhere along the way in these past six months.  There may not be a lot of running talk on here for a while, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a lot of good talk.  (And food.  Always food!)

I hope you guys will stick around and enjoy whatever adventures I get myself into!  And Muffins is officially back; I have lots of exciting things in store – changes, upgrades, you name it – for this little blog over the next few months.

Thanks for reading, everyone. 🙂

Waterfront Double Whammy

Hey everyone!  How’s the weekend going so far?

Mine has been pretty busy.  I went to a late dinner last night with a friend and ended up taking an impromptu trip down to the waterfront and then to the Lincoln Memorial just for funsies.  It was drizzling off and on for most of the time, but it was fun nonetheless!  The only thing I did not particularly like was the large number of runners we saw (I mean I love seeing runners, but it also kinda sucks right now…).  The running envy was real.

Even though it was rainy, the lights were still pretty!

And then today (because I just can’t stay away) I ended up back at the waterfront!  The weather was perfect and beautiful and just begging me to go out.  I didn’t know there was a regatta today, so I was surprised by how many people there were when we got down there…but that was really cool to see!

Also, I went with a friend to see the new Captain America movie today, and it was great.  The one thing that was really strange for us was that the movie was nearly completely set in DC and the opening shot pans across the waterfront, right where we were today and had been last night [cue Twilight Zone theme].  After the movie, we grabbed frozen yogurt at Pinkberry and sat at a table off of M Street to eat and people watch.  All in all, a really great day!

Lastly, my roommate-to-be and I had our housing selection today, and we ended up getting a room in the dorm we had been hoping for but not expecting to get…we are SO excited!  It’s basically prime real estate on campus and it is going to be wonderful.  Considering that there were only ten rooms in that dorm available for our selection and our selection number was 110, we were BEYOND thrilled.

Hope you’re having a great weekend! 🙂

Much Needed Girl Time!

Hey everyone!  Happy Sunday. 🙂

I was a busy bee this weekend!  I didn’t even have the chance to post yesterday.  Wowee.

First item on the agenda – we really need to talk about this: March 1st is National Pancake Day.  HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS.  I mean, it’s not like I need an excuse to eat pancakes, but it makes my addiction habit look slightly more socially acceptable.

So now on to the fun of this weekend…

Yesterday, my friend from another university in DC headed on over to my neck of the woods and I showed him around!  It was super fun, and the weather was b-e-a-utiful. 🙂  I love hearing about what other people’s schools are like and how they’re different or similar to my own.

Right after he left, my fraaaand from home (Remember my coffee/homework date last weekend when I was home?  Yeah that friend) came up around 5ish!  We just hung out and grabbed coffee last night and talked for almost three hours straight about life and some real deep stuff.  Sometimes that is just what two girls need.

This morning we got up early and headed on over to Baked & Wired for breakfast on the waterfront!  She got a mocha and a donut muffin (I have never had one but apparently it was da bomb) and I got a latte and a ginger-chocolate biscotti.  SO.  GOOD.

The foam on my latte was prettier than that when I first got it….but I just like food so much that I always eat/drink some of it before I can get my camera ready. I am ashamed.

We took our coffee and goodies down to the waterfront and just chilled there for a while…it was the perfect temperature: just chilly enough that with a hot coffee, we weren’t cold!  I was mesmerized by the woman painting down along the water…it was a scene right out of a movie.  I just love DC.

It was cloudy, but still beautiful.  I love going to the waterfront, or anywhere in the city for that matter, in the mornings because the city is still sleeping…I love feeling like I have DC to myself for a little bit.  And of course, all of the runners were out. 🙂

After we went back to campus, we grabbed our books and hunkered down to do homework for a little bit.  It can’t be ALL fun and games!  We did stop by Cosi to grab lunch after studying for a while.  I had the Shanghai Chicken Salad which is sooooo so so tasty.  Nom.

After sitting and talking for a little while longer, it was time to say our goodbyes and I walked her to the bus stop.  Our spring breaks overlap for a few days so we’re already planning our next get-together for when we’re both home! 🙂

And now it’s time to go back to real life now.  Tomorrow is Monday…ew.  I’m just going to keep denying that!

On a different note, I wanted to say thanks to Lis for nominating me for a Liebster Award!  I’ll be posting my answers to her questions tomorrow along with my nominees.

Hope everyone has a great end to their weekend and a good Monday (er, as good as a Monday can be…) tomorrow! 🙂
