Fast Five Friday!

Hey friends!

I’m so glad that it is Friday!  Did anyone else feel like this week took forever?  …I think I feel that way every week…haha.

It’s been a busy week, and I have a busy day today – class at 9, meeting with a professor, class at 12, and lab from 1 to 5 – but then it’s the weekend!  Weather permitting, I’m planning to do some adventuring in the city this weekend…I have a list of places I’ve been wanting to visit, but this is the first weekend in I-don’t-know-how-long that I’ll actually be able to take some time away from studying to do that.  So I’m excited!  Also, our housing selection is Saturday – we get our lottery number tomorrow, so fingers crossed for a good one!

Now that I’ve filled you in on my [very open] plans for this weekend, here’s what I have been up to this week, “Fast Five”-style!

1. Eating ALL the veggies.  I don’t know what it is, but some weeks I just want can’t get enough vegetables!  I actually texted multiple friends…and my mom…raving about my salad last night and the veggies and chicken I had Wednesday night.  I guess there are worse things to go crazy over…? 😀

Roasted chicken + every vegetable I could find on Wednesday night.

Yesterday's KILLER salad from Sweetgreen: wild rice + kale + chicken + caramelized onions + roasted mushrooms + cherry tomatoes + carrots + hummus + lemon squeeze.

2. Surviving midterms.  No, I did not fail my Orgo exam.  HALLELUJAH.  I swear, Organic Chemistry does this thing where it takes my heart and puts it in a blender and turns me into emotional soup.  Usually I don’t let classes get under my skin like that, especially because I usually end up doing okay on the exams, but there’s something about Orgo…

3. Walking.  Soooooooo many walks.  And I love it.  Yesterday, it was SEVENTY-FOUR degrees outside.  Maybe it’s actually spring…?  (Oh wait, tomorrow’s high temp is only 45.  Nope, just kidding…not spring.)  But hey, this week was pretty nice overall, and yesterday was awesome, so I can’t complain too much. 🙂  And what could be better than jamming out to music, exploring this beautiful city, and getting in some exercise all at the same time?

4. Morning quiet time.  I used to get my exercise in before breakfast-time, but there were two problems with that: 1.) I was sacrificing some sleep to do so, and 2.) my morning hunger is a raging beast from basically the moment I wake up (seriously, ask my family…don’t get between me and my breakfast when I’m hangry!).  So I’ve been waking up a little bit later for the past few months – albeit way earlier than most college students – and having breakfast while reading my daily devotional, enjoying my coffee, and easing into the day.  Let me tell ya, it is nice. 🙂  And it really helped me stay grounded this past week and a half in the midst of midterm stress!

My favorite message from this past week's devotionals (I use SheReadsTruth). Exactly what I needed to hear!

5. Not wearing real pants.  Yep, you read that correctly…no jeans for this girl!  I managed to go through the whole week without wearing anything besides leggings, crops, or sweats.  Reason #258712398425741 why I’m single…

So there ya have it!  That’s the quick-and-dirty on what I’ve been up to this week.  Make sure to drop by on Monday to hear about my weekend shenanigans! 🙂

Have an awesome weekend!

What are you doing this weekend?

Sometimes You Just Know

As I was walking to the gym early this morning, I just had to stop for a moment.  It was one of those times where the music on the radio was on point, the weather was gorgeous, the sun was shining, and I had this big dumb smile on my face.  I wanted to take it all in, because everything just seemed to be right with the world.  From that moment on, I knew that today was going to be perfect.

And then I went and had an AWESOME workout, so that was an added bonus.

How is everyone doing this lovely Friday?  It’s just a good day.  It is close to eighty degrees here right now…downright BALMY in the district.  I am loving it! 🙂

I just got back from lying out on the lawn with the entire university population a few other students – didn’t want to be out there too long because my pasty skin will BURN and, uh, no thank you.  But it was gorgeous!  The temperature right now is prime.

Now I’m back in my room just enjoying some peace and quiet (my roommate just left for a retreat).

My legs are super shiny….?

Just enjoying some coffee and catching up on Fallon episodes.  Is there a better way to spend a Friday evening than lying in the sun then watching the Tonight Show for an hour or two?  I think not.  I’m just loving that I don’t have to do anything and that I can enjoy some relaxation time.  I’ve been in a state of calm all day and I think it is exactly what I needed.

I hope everyone had a great week! 🙂  Have a wonderful weekend!

Spring Break is in Sight!

This Friday seriously did not come fast enough.

Actually, I take that back.  The week passed by quickly but I had so much work to do, there never seemed to be enough time to get it done!  Which leads me to say…

…Sorry for not posting the past few days!  College happened and…yeah.  Midterms.  Enough said.  But seriously though…this week was crazy.  Because of our snow day Monday and delay Tuesday, I ended up having a Bio exam on Tuesday and a Chem exam on Wednesday and two papers due yesterday.  Crazytown!

But now I just have to get through classes today and at two, I’m FREE! 🙂  Spring break is within reach!  And when I get out of class at two, my best friend from PA will be arriving here!  I have an afternoon/evening full of fun planned for her.  And then, because she is wonderfully fantabulously nice (I hope you are reading this, S!) she is taking me home too.  And my taking me home I mean taking me and all of my laundry, clothes, schoolwork, and other shtuff home.  See why I just love her?

Know who else I love?  My physical therapist.  I have been having pain down by my toes (no worries, just joint inflammation because of the six weeks with my fiberglass BFF) so she put a pad in my shoe and VOILA!  Problem solved.  And she offered to do it for my other pair of sneakers too.  WIN.

After I turned in my papers yesterday and picked up my Chem exam, I went to the gym and then I came back and caught up on a buuuunch of TV shows.  It was heavenly.  That was the first night I had time to do that this week!  That, ladies and gents, is why I love Thursdays.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Friday and stayed tuned for a recap of my adventures with S! 🙂

Guess Who Got Cleared to Do CARDIO!! (Well, Kinda…)

Hey friends!

Sorry for not posting yesterday.  It was a crap-tastic day and I just did not want to share that with you all.  But today was a new day and I moved on!

BUT today was a big day because guess what this girl is allowed to do tomorrow!!  CARDIO!  That’s right.  Cleared by my physical therapist at my eval just a little while ago.  Yay!  This is a big deal!!! 🙂

I actually kind of had to get out my puppy dog eyes to convince her to let me because she isn’t sure how my ankle is going to respond to working out again at this point.  When I first asked her if I could spin, she gave me this look:

So basically my PT decided I can try doing a little bit of spin.  She said I’m not going to mess anything up, especially because I’ll have my brace on, but if it’s really painful or it swells a lot after I should, uh, not return to the spin bike for the foreseeable future.  Womp.  So I’m going to be REALLY careful because…cardio.  Enough said.

I will be sure to let you guys know how it goes tomorrow morning at the gym!  I seriously just can’t handle my excitement right now.  Any runner/cardio addict who has been injured before can probably relate to that feeling.  And also, this is one step closer to running!

So now that my rash is gone (although it did leave some pretty ugly scars), I wanted to share what my ankle looks like now!  (Note: Please don’t judge the awful photo quality.  It’s kind of hard to take a picture of your own ankle, actually.  Haha.)

Isn’t that nice? Nope, that is not the rash…it just scarred REALLY badly. Cool.

Ah well. I shall never be a foot model. It wasn’t in the cards anyway.

Isn’t it lovely?  It’s not actually too swollen these days and when it does swell, I tackle it with an ice pack before it gets too bad.  (It is a little more swollen than usual because of PT today.)

You know what I’m thinking?  Gym tomorrow morning followed by Starbucks to celebrate.  I think yes.  Because this is worth celebrating!

I hope you all had a fabulous Friday and have a wonderful weekend!  I’ll check in tomorrow (after CARDIO!!). 🙂

Happy Friday, Folks!

This week was a short one but man, was it packed.  Lots of assignments due, lots of late nights.  Phew.  And now it’s FRIDAY!

I am really excited because I actually have plans for the weekend!  One of my friends at a different school in DC is trekking on over tomorrow afternoon for the grand tour and a look around the neighborhood.  Then, one of my friends from home that goes to school pretty close by is coming up for tomorrow night into Sunday for some girl time.  And, I get to hear about her running and pretend that I know what she’s talking about even though I haven’t run in ages…soon though!  I shall return!

Speaking of which, I decided to wait to start cardio until I see my PT (a week from today) but seriously.  I’m struggling.  Ever since hearing the words “bike” and “elliptical” come out of my surgeon’s mouth on Monday, I want to do CARDIO.  I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to do it until after next Friday…but now walking through the gym past the bikes and ellipticals is making me feel really bitter mildly peeved.

Also, I saw my next-door floormate this afternoon and she saw I was cast-free and of course, I told her gleefully (I think this is the only appropriate word to describe my excitement at that moment) that I should be able to start running straight lines in six weeks.  And she just looked at me like a nut job and finally said, “That sounds…fun?”  And I just wanted to be like YES IT DOES IT IS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW but instead I settled for, “Yeah, it’s pretty cool.”  I think I contained my internal explosion of happiness pretty well.

I didn’t even have coffee today until about an hour ago (decaf of course, I do like my sleep) which was super strange for me.  I mean I have five classes in a row on Fridays, from 8:45 to 2:00, but man.  How did I forget such an important part of my day?  I mean I guess it’s not a bad thing but decaf coffee is just so…sad…

Good news!  My rash is going away!  I think I may actually be able to wear shorts tomorrow, which would be awesome because I honestly just hate long pants in most forms.  Shorts are my usual uniform from about March to whenever the first snow happens and forces me to believe that yes, it is winter.  I’m not sure how many times I showed up for physical therapy appointments last semester in shorts and got weird looks from the staff and other patients.  No shame.  Winter is for three months; shorts are forever.

I’m feeling another cup of coffee and an episode or two of something or other to keep me occupied for the next couple of hours.  Does anyone have any TV show recommendations?  All of my favorites don’t start back up until next week and it kind of sucks trying to find things to watch.

That’s all from me, so I hope everyone has a great Friday night and weekend! I’ll be enjoying this beautiful spring-like weather while it lasts. 🙂

Pizza Friday!!

I had class until two today and then I left school to head home for the weekend!  I’ve been here for only four hours and the baking weekend has already begun.  My mom and I stopped at Common Market to get groceries and goodies (hello, sunbutter and GF pretzels!) and grabbed lattes at Starbucks on the way home.

My mom had the great idea to use a GF baking mix we had to make pizza crust for homemade pizza tonight.  Um, YUM.  It’s cooling now and smells awesome!  I haven’t had pizza in forever….perfect Friday treat. 🙂

The crust and unbaked cheesy pepperoni-y goodness…

…And the finished product.  OM NOM NOM.

Tomorrow is going to be a baking day.  On the agenda are GF muffins, coffee cake, cornbread, and waffles!  I think I’m definitely jumping on the food prep train so I’m going to make big batches and freeze some of the waffles to have for breakfast during the week.  I’ll be posting the recipes and details of my cooking adventures in a few separate posts tomorrow and Sunday.  WARNING: there will be images of delicious food.  Be prepared.

On the agenda for tonight is the opening ceremony of the Olympics and a workout that is still to be determined!  I’ll be sure to post it tomorrow. 🙂

Happy Friday – and to all my fellow east-coasters, stay warm!
